What Diets Do to Me

His almond eyes
saw lies—master of praxeology--
 felt the violet
writhing, in air
lemon-fresh.

He uncovered
the giant specter
who hacks away
to disturb
the dissimulation
I wear, an ostracon
large enough to hide the haunting,
but with words enough to belie the charade.

Fire the kiln,
Dig up the carob root,
I need a new guise
and
caffeine-free chocolate.

  1. Ahhh, Ginny! This is fantastic. You are most assuredly the poet of the day. :)

The sound alone. I wish you could record this. Perfect introduction via the title.

    I adore "His almond eyes
    saw lies—master of praxeology"

    "ostracon" ... great word!

    "the giant specter
who hacks away" ... Isn't that the truth?!

This gave me chills: "Fire the kiln,
Dig up the carob root" ... Something serious is about to go down. ;)

I'm so glad you had time to write this week!

  5. Is this about being caught eating something "bad"?
I LOVE chocolate and do wish they would come up w/ a truly divine substitute for the real thing. Though I heard a snippet on the radio about how eating chocolate actually helps you lose weight. And the announcer said, "oh, I guess I've been doing it wrong!" Well, me, too, as in eating way too much!! :)
Great job using the words in a very witty way!

  6. Now that I've been on this acid reflux diet, I've realized just how much I used chocolate as a little pick-me-up or a Mommy reward! I LOVE chocolate too! and haven't found a substitute that was even close!!!

I hope you'll write a poem again next week. I'll probably post the words on Sunday to give everyone a jumpstart.
