Stop Trying

crisp bite
apple crunch
morning nourishment
                                       a body drifts

                                                                                              Soul seeks salt
allergic to aloe's soothing
natural in June's grass
mint rampant fast

Droning doctors,
fancy medicine,
absent--
                                                                                    spirit finds healing.

For Shawna's Monday Melting poetry writing prompt, using the following words:  aloe, absence, healing, mint, grass, natural, drift, salt, nourish, June

  1. This was written after an employee of a food provider who was stocking the shelves at Wal-mart told me that my son (with multiple disabilities) would be healed suddenly: "when you least expect it, just stop trying!" It may not be until my son is made completely whole in heaven, but I believe he will dance and sing ONE DAY before His Maker!

  2. Love this - especially "droning doctors" and "fancy medicine" - love the contrast of this with all of the natural elements of healing in the poem.

  3. Beautiful, Ginny. I hope that employee is correct!
I like the shape of this poem...the expanding then contracting.... the soul seeking...then finally finding.

    1. Thanks, Anne Katherine. I liked the shape as well--almost like a tear falling. . .

  4. Oh, it's shaped! Awesome. I only read it in the comments of my blog last week. Very clever, Ginny. :)

It takes on a different tone with the footnote in mind. I like that "a body drifts" and "a soul seeks salt" float in different directions. This reminds me of my father-in-law. Whenever he starts to get stressed out at work, he starts wishing for a day-escape to the beach. Somewhere between the body escaping and the soul escaping, the spirit finds healing. Balance. Breath. One moment at a time. That's all we can do.

    This week's words are up:
